How to take the best pictures of your car.
We want Driveaholics.com to be a destination for cool cars, but also to feature beautiful, aesthetically-pleasing pictures.
So before you submit photos of your car take a look at the guidance below to make sure you show it off in the best possible way!
Rule 1 – Choose the right background
- Try to avoid having other vehicles in the background (e.g. taking the picture in a busy car park).
- Try to avoid an ugly background (e.g. wheelie bins/rubbish/etc in the background).
- Try to avoid having people in the background (it’s OK to send one with you stood with the car though).
- Try to avoid having a ‘busy’ background (we recommend things such as a wall, trees, fields, or an empty car park).
- Try to leave plenty of background on show (e.g. don’t fill too much of the photo with your car)

Rule 2 – Image size and quality
- Try to take the picture in daylight as most smart phones can’t cope well with poor lighting.
- Try not to apply filters before sending us the picture, as these usually negatively affect image quality.
- Make sure the image size is at least 1000px wide x 500px high (most smart phones will be larger by default).
- Avoid sending us images that are blurry, taken with poor lighting, pixelated or too small.

Rule 3 – Don’t stand too close, don’t hold camera too high!
- Stand at least 5 metres away from the car – around 2 car lengths away is perfect!
- Try to hold the camera around waist height, this will give the car a meaner appearance when photographed!
- Try to get the bottom of the car to sit parallel with the bottom of the photo

Rule 4 – Make sure the WHOLE car is in the picture!
- Stand at least 2 car lengths away from the car (around 5 metres)
- Make sure the car takes up no more than 50% of the image – leave plenty of background
- Make sure the car either sits nice and central in the image, OR sits in the bottom left, or bottom right corner
- DO NOT have the car sitting in the top half of the image – it won’t look right

Rule 5 – Don’t apply filters if possible!
- Try not to send us photos where you’ve applied filters using your phone or Instagram etc.
- Unfortunately these sort of mobile-based editors massively reduce image quality.
- Always try and find the original photo and send us that.
- We will apply filters and play around with contrast levels etc to make the image look awesome anyway!

No, we will do that for you before uploading the images.
Yes on most occasions we will do some light editing to the images – this includes cropping, sharpening, changing colour balance and hues. It’s all designed to help show off your car in it’s best possible light!
If your photos don’t quite meet our requirements, we will email you to explain why, and ask for some more!
